Montaner was born in Buenos Aires on September 8, 1957, but for him his homeland is Venezuela, since he has lived in this country since he was a child.

He converted to Christianity during a visit to the Pereira Rossell Hospital in the city of Montevideo, in Uruguay. In this public hospital he met a sick child who influenced him in his change of faith.
